Make Scanned PDFs Searchable

Scanned documents and image-based PDFs are difficult to work with because you can't select, copy, or search the text. Our offline OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool scans the images in your PDF and generates an invisible, selectable text layer over the original document. This ensures the visual layout remains identical while unlocking the text for indexing and productivity. Learn more about securely extracting text from PDF receipts offline.

How to Create Searchable PDFs with OCR

📁

1. Select Your Scanned PDFs

Click 'Select PDF Files' or drag and drop one or more scanned PDF documents into the designated area.

⚙️

2. Convert & Save

Click the 'Convert & Save PDFs' button. The tool will perform OCR on each page and create a new, searchable PDF.

💾

3. Download Your File

Once processing is complete, the new searchable PDF will be automatically downloaded to your device. If you selected multiple files, they will be saved in a ZIP archive.

Frequently Asked Questions about OCR PDF

Is this OCR process secure?

Yes, it is completely secure. The entire OCR process happens strictly in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to a server, guaranteeing the privacy of your documents. See our guide on PDF offline manipulation security.

What languages does the OCR support?

The OCR is currently optimized for English text. Support for other languages may be added in the future, but accuracy will be highest for English.

Will the formatting of my original PDF be preserved?

The tool creates an invisible text layer over the original page image. This means the visual appearance is identical to the original, but the text becomes selectable and searchable. The original layout is perfectly preserved.

Why is the process slow for large files?

OCR is a computationally intensive task. It categorizes and analyzes each page as an image to recognize individual characters. Larger files with many pages will take longer, as the local processing fully depends on your device CPU memory.
